Court of The Lich Queen - Beta
A downloadable game
Since the age that night fell and ice grew hard against ancient stone, this land has been owned by the Dead. The glory of encompassing shadow, the sanctity of paper-thin flesh, the subtle dance of savagery under starlight; no living, changing world can compare.
Ruled over by The Lich Queen, who closed it from the ravages of the Living and bound her corpse to The Ending Throne to keep her subjects in unlife, the stewardship of its realms have been left to her undead Court for countless centuries.
Now, the broken bell has tolled its silent clamour and the end of everything has come by the light of The Dawn. These are the last years of power as magic flees the world and the unbinding begins. By the end of this there will be no more Death as the realms crumble to dust and the darkness cowers beneath the birth of light.
All this will come to pass unless the breathless whispers of The Lich Queen’s prophecies can be unravelled and fulfilled.
The end of the land of Death is coming, but it can be stopped…
Court Of The Lich Queen is a GMless roleplaying game for 4-6 players. You take on the role of Representatives to the Court of The Lich Queen, working together to complete Rituals that will save the world, trying to hold back the disasters befalling your Realms.
This game is Powered by the Apocalypse (PbtA), and draws inspiration from the design principles in D.Vincent and Meguey Baker’s Apocalypse World.
It also draws thematic and mechanical inspiration from Mörk Borg by Pelle Nilsson and Johan Nohr (published by Free League), and Brindlewood Bay by Jason Cordova (published by The Gauntlet).
This is an evolving beta of the text and is entirely unedited. It may be subject to multiple changes before final publication.
Assets for the Beta will be released in the future to accompany the text.
Versions of the untested/unedited alpha/ashcan text and assets are also included, marked "Alpha - " so you can see the progress.
